Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery is an intensive early literacy intervention program offered to students in Year 1 who are having difficulty getting started in learning to read and write. The aim of the program is to help children develop a self-improving system and is seen as ‘prevention’ so has a profound effect on a child’s self-esteem. The Reading Recovery teacher works with classroom teachers to assess students to enter this program. The students assessed as ‘at risk’ have daily half hour individual lessons with a trained specialist Reading Recovery teacher.
